I agree with most of the other posts around here suggesting the Hifiman HE-500. Be aware they need a serious amplifier to work well.

No, they have been around since 1990. Their ESP line (electrostatic line) has been around since the late 1960's.

They were manufactured 20 years ago, and the earpads aren't very comfortable. But they compete well with all headphones up to $1K, and comes with it's own amp.
All you need is a DAC.

cheaper here, odd. Its tempting but those earpads look low quality, and its still enough monye to warrant extensive research and review scouring
Koss ESP950... to the best of my knowledge, Z hasn't had the opportunity to review them yet, but I suspect after this Massdrop delivers, someone will drop him a pair. It'd be interesting to compare to the Stax in similar price range.

This is a waaay better deal. $660 CAD is like $520 US... and you don't have to wait.
you can get a bit of the exprience of electrostatic goodness with 'phones. There are also small cheap electrostatic speakers from BenQ, i believe but from what i read they arent too impressive.
