Why don't you run some hanging fixtures between joists? I snagged a few of these:
They're in my shop and they're lightweight and weren't incredibly expensive. I did a half-ass daisychain with them and had solid results.
Ultimately I would suggest getting something between the joists so that you don't have to worry about hitting fixtures or strips with that low ceiling.
