I had this same idea, and when I inquired in the past they recommended I look at these.
I've thought a lot about this and there isn't really any good solution. It would be nice if you could combine a long magnet, or string of magnets, along with a dowel in the window that stops it from opening past the point of triggering an alarm. Right now, I just have it set up so that my second floor windows don't trigger an alarm unless it's in away mode, but that's not ideal when I have visitors. I want things to be intuitive enough so that guests don't accidentally trigger the alarm and I also want it to look elegantly simple. It's a hard nut to crack.
