I started learning Arabic with Duolingo but now I use the Living Language Arabic textbooks.

Duo helped me learn the alphabet and a few basic phrases, but the whole course itself feels somewhat rushed and not as helpful as other languages I've used on it. It doesn't even teach you any verbs.

1. don't waste your money on Rosetta Stone. its no good.
   
   
2. Out of all the books/CD's I used, this is the best combo I have found. A steal at that price as well.
   
   
3. if you really want to spend money, i can recommend this place... although there is a religious bent to the material. As a heads up, they offer different payment options every now and then. Sign up for the emails (to get their "report" -its actually helpful explaining some basics, worth a read even with the salesman pitch in there) to be notified... its usually around holidays. Its a lot of money, but some people prefer such a learning style... all up to you. here is the FAQ
