Underarmor down to 30s, long underwear below that.
Cotton socks under wool socks (arguably bad, some say to use nylon socks under wool instead, depends on area of the country and how much you walk)
T-shirt or long sleeve cotton shirt over the long underwear shirt so that I can remove clothing during hotter days and be comfortable climbing mountains.
Sweater on really cold days (20s).
Light zip-up jacket
Winter jacket with hood
Gloves + extra gloves in ziplock bags to keep water out.
Jeans or Carharts
Wool or wool-like synthetic snow pants
Wool stocking cap
Scarf (I recommend an army-style mesh scarf).

I hunt in Washington so when it rains none of this stuff works. It could be 50 degrees but your hands feel like ice and you're shivering all over. On cold days it gets down to 20 degrees, snowy days are around 30 degrees. Most days start at 30+ and end up around 50+.
