I use the nexia doorbell sensor https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B017VVO9QQ?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_yo_pop_mb_pd_t1

You just wire it right into your doorbell chime. Works great for me with SmartThings.

Wires in line with your existing doorbell wiring and works with any z wave hub. Super simple and works great.

Probably not what you want to hear, but the simplest way would be to get a z-wave doorbell, or a z-wave doorbell sensor.

I used this to give my existing doorbell a z-wave connection to SmartThings that then sends a notification to my phone:

I have mine setup to ring a zwave mp3 doorbell module and send a push notification. I did this by using a zwave module that attaches to my old school doorbell. You could likely get it to trigger your lights as well.
