I would suggest leaving the souvenirs up to their actual travels and get them something FOR the trip. Personally I always bought a pocket dictionary for the country I was visiting. The Norwegian one that I have is: Berlitz Norwegian Phrase Book and Dictionary (Norwegian Edition) ( It's really thorough on phrases for every travelers situation, though you're unlikely to find difficulty with communication since so many speak a least a little English if not being fluent in English.
