Hello, I installed a 256 GB Crucial SSD and 8GB of RAM into my 2011 MacBook Pro 15" and the computer flies after that. Huge improvement. Almost all the programs open immediately, you can have a bunch of anything you want open (within reason). Here are the exact items I bought: RAM and SSD.

Crucial has since updated the SSDs, here is a newer model.

The Crucial MX200 is pretty great: http://amzn.com/B00RQA6DTE (or equally the MX100, though it's a little older)

Comes with a 3 year warranty, and I've never heard of Crucial being shitty about their RMAs.

However Samsung have refused to acknowledge this 840 problem as a defect, and so have refused RMAs, returns, refunds, and (with a few exceptions) replacements. Samsung are unfortunately not a go-to company if you want to feel reassured that your product will work well, and be replaced if not.

Intel's 730 or 530 drives are also reliable and both come with 5 year warranties: http://www.intel.com/support/ssdc/hpssd/sb/CS-029645.htm
They cost a tad more than the Crucial drives, but I haven't heard any horror stories from them.

Thanks.

I already have a SSD, should I buy a cheap hard drive for move space?

And, are websites like "SuperBiiz" safe/reputable? I know newegg and amazon are, but on SuperBiiiz's facebook page, they have some complaints. Would I be better off going to Microcenter in person with a list of parts? I have one about 30 minutes away from me.

Also, does the motherboard come with a Wifi card? sorry if noob question, I'm new to this.

What other parts/materials/tools would I need to build the PC?

Thanks a ton.

MX200 should be fine. It is also SATA III 2.5"

BX100 will also work. I have one in my X220 and it's great.

PLEASE PLEASE don't buy the BX200 though. If you have looked at the benchmarks, the BX200 sucks since it's mostly designed to cut costs.

Looks like it's about as fast as everyone else within a reasonable margin.

The 850 is one of the top drives for TLC-memory SSDs. Usually, the read/write speeds tend to decrease as price lowers. To get better performance, most TLC SSDs have a buffer cache to get better read/write speeds. The difference is between SSDs, in my opinion, is pretty much unnoticeable is normal use. The jump from mechanical HDD is what matters.

Some good entry-level SSDs are the ADATA SP550, Transcend 370 or Sandisk Ultra II and a direct competitor to the 850 EVO, the Crucial MX200

If you want good value for space and performance, the MyDigitalSSD BP5e offers that.

The newer model of this is $80. Why would anyone pay more for an older version?

From your rambling wall of text I think you are looking for an SSD.

Go to http://www.crucial.com and select your MBP model and they will give you your SSD options. After you pick one check on Amazon for the same drive, sometimes it is $5-10 cheaper on Amazon than Crucial (but not always).

I have a 15-inch Early 2011 MBP and bought this one about a year and a half ago: https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-MX200-250GB-Internal-Solid/dp/B00RQA6DTE/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1483975513&sr=1-1&keywords=Crucial+MX200+250GB+SATA+2.5+Inch+Internal+Solid+State+Drive+-+CT250MX200SSD1

When I bought it, it was only $85, not sure why the price has increased to $102. The 500gig version is $269.

EDIT: here is a newer model of that drive for only $87: https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-MX300-275GB-Internal-Solid/dp/B01IAGSD5O/ref=dp_ob_title_ce
