Check out the One Tigris masks. Fire your face way better. They do have less ventilation, but it's worth it imo.

I came from paintball, so the first mask I used in airsoft was a Dye i4. Great full-face mask that never fogged.
I didn't really like how it looked, and decided to move to goggles (Valken Sierras) and mesh (ASG Mesh mask). I hated wearing mesh, though, so I zip tied my goggles and mesh together which was much more comfortable. Also did it with ESS NVGs.
What I use now is my mesh attached to my helmet, like this. It's not as comfortable as having the one piece set up, but I can easily detach the mesh if I need to drink, or if I'm just sitting in spawn taking a break. This was a life saver in Operation Overwatch this past weekend. I still switch off between Valken Sierras and ESS NVGs.
My future plans are to get the One Tigris half face mask to use when I don't want to use a helmet, and it'll go with the rest of my multicam stuff. Also curious about the Pyramex I-force and may get a pair for christmas.
Better to just get a face mesh like the OneTigris half face mesh. They're comfortable, breathable, and inexpensive.
As for the gap between goggles and mask, the chances of you getting shot there are pretty low. Just more incentive for you to keep moving!

Moving on to another topic: mouth protection, or more specifically: teeth protection.
With a rigid mesh it can be hard to get a proper cheek-weld, that is an issue I had in my latest game, thus why many prefer a mesh mask that has fabric on the sides, like this
I don't have it myself, but I have heard good things about it. Protects your mouth, while at the same time allowing you to easily shoulder the gun and aim.
Other alternatives are light mouthguards that you soak in hot water, and then bite down on, thus shaping them to your teeth. However not all fields allow them, so something to keep in mind, and getting a bb to your lips will still hurt, even if it doesn't cause your teeth to shatter.

Lexan is a commonly used material for making protectors for red dot sights and such you might be able to make a visor out of that.
