My previous Bond On A Budget post (http://imgur.com/a/KhuqB) seemed to be fairly well received and I got a few requests for more looks from Skyfall. This is built ONLY on items that I have in my own closet. Nothing is borrowed or bought for this. It’s all just what I happen to have hanging up. So they may not be exact matches to the inspiration shots but I try to get the vibe even if it’s not perfect.

I’ve put roughly what I paid for the item and I’ve tried to link to the actual item or something similar at that price point. I buy a lot of things on sale or closeout so it may not match the price at the link completely.

If there is interest I’ll probably keep doing these theme based outfits and not just focusing on Bond. I’ve already put some thought into a music related one (Springsteen in 1975, Matt Berninger from the National and other guys like that) and maybe some looks from Wes Anderson movies. We will see what I can scrounge up based on what I have.

My first "real" watch was a Orient Union. I loved it, and now am looking for more! Here is an album of my Orient.

I'm currently looking to pick up a Orient Blue Ray or Orient Blue Mako. I'm leaning more towards the Ray, but am still undecided.

I don't think this is what you wanted exactly but… I would recommend all 4. Seiko and citizen are two great watch companies for the price point. My one other recommendation is for the orient mako Black, Blue, Amazon search for other colors. That said to help make a decision you should ask yourself a few questions.

Do you want an automatic or quartz?

What size watch do you want? (How big are your wrists?)

Which one do you like the best?

>Cant say honestly that it looks more expensive than it is though

It's only $118 on Amazon, $136 with bracelet.

I haven't found anything even close to that cheap that looks and feels as good. And I've gotten more complements on it than on much, much more expensive watches I own.

Lots of great suggestions in this thread for things you'll eventually need like a suit, shoes, wallet, cookware, knife, etc. I just wanted to add what I've learned in hindsight: sometimes it's best to buy cheap before you BI4L so you know what you want when it's time to spent the money for the long haul. For example:

Shoes: I bout a pair of Allen Edmonds Strands in walnut for my first pair of nice shoes since I was going to be working in a business casual environment and lots of people said they were great fashionable shoes. Turns out the broquing and bright shade of brown were too fashionable for me, even though I thought it looked alright in the store. I would have gone with something tamer if I had tried a similar yet cheaper pair of wingtips like the Strands before buying a dress shoe. Same goes for boots like the Red Wings recommended in this thread.

Suit: My first suit was terrible but at the time I thought it looked fly as hell. Luckily I bought it from a cheapo tailor in Asia and wasn't out of too much. I had to spend some time in it to realize that it wasn't what I wanted. Having this suit experience was especially important since without it, I wouldn't have known what I didn't want in a new one.

Cookware: as far as cookware goes, don't dish out until you've spent some time in the kitchen with cheap shit (or easy shit). If I had started with cast iron, which requires considerably more maintenance than stainless, I might not have gotten as much into cooking as I did. Some will argue that cast iron doesn't require THAT much, but to a beginner who doesn't know left from right in the kitchen, it can be a lot to keep track of. Also, do you like working with a chef's knife or a cleaver/santoku? Non-stick or stainless? There are a bunch of preferences to develop.

Anyway I think you get my point.

For some actual recommendations: I bought an Orient Ray as my first "nice" watch. It's automatic (no batteries) and waterproof. It's not truly bi4l however since it lacks a crystal sapphire scratch proof glass face. But that costs more money.

Also, this is a good pot that is low maintenance.

It's a common type of watch and price point, there is plenty of stuff here, on forums like watchuseek, and on youtube to search through.

I am a novice, fully admit that I know nothing, but just did this research myself. I agree with /u/nephros.

The other ones that I looked at were Invicta and Parnis. I crossed them off my list because they're designed specifically to look like Rolex submariners and I thought Seiko/Orient had higher quality. I'd rather pay for quality than pay for imitation. You may find the lookalike factor as a positive or negative, for whatever reason. I think it's a huge negative, but that's a dead horse.

FWIW, I ended up with the Orient Ray, which you can get on Amazon for $136 in blue right now (the black version is a hair over your budget unless you get it with a rubber strap).

Here's the thread I posted earlier about it: http://www.reddit.com/r/Watches/comments/2zjhwg/novice_is_there_any_reason_i_should_not_buy_an/

I will never be able to afford an Omega Seamaster. This is the closest I will ever come, and I fucking love it:

If you wait for an Amazon code for 20% off, it'll be under 150. I was able to catch it at 139 bucks. I think you can find it on eBay (brand new) for around 130. I plan to swap the bracelet out for a shark mesh bracelet.
