That model would have been $150 or less new. Now it's an old quartz watch with scratches. Pass.

Buy This instead.

Orient Ray II in blue, otherwise known as the Blueray II. Great 200m diver with a blue sunburst dial, a blue bezel, Orient's in house automatic movmement with hacking and manual winding ability.

Orient has the Ray II and Mako II which are very similar. Same movement and features, and they each come in black and blue versions (I linked the blue ones because I like them, but its easy to find the black if that's your preference). An older model will be almost the same, but not have the hacking or hand-winding movement, and they have a pushbutton at the 2 o' clock. They might be a bit cheaper on Amazon though so that's your call.

Thanks man! Yeah, the new one from Spectre is pretty damn nice, I got lucky enough to see the same model at an Omega dealer a few weeks ago and it was gorgeous.

Absolutely nothing wrong with an $80 watch though, I've funneled a ton of money into the more affordable ones to love and cherish until I could get this one. If I can make a recommendation, the best one I ever got for the cost was the Orient Ray. Here's the newer version of it on Amazon, cannot recommend it enough!

So you’re selling it for $150 (if you include S&H) when it sells brand new for less (around $145 on amazon)?

Here it is on Amazon with free 2 day shipping if you have Prime :

$145. 98 - Orient Men's 'Ray II' Japanese Automatic Stainless Steel Diving Watch, Color:Silver-Toned (Model: FAA02005D9) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AK5TQE0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_AWWJBbX4YS52M

I would recommend a new Orient. They are great watches.

u/ocinn · 4 pointsr/Watches

I'd go with the Orient.

I personally prefer the look of the brother "Ray II" over the mako, but that's your call.

u/dacrocyte · 4 pointsr/Watchexchange

Since you live in Canada buy it off amazon.ca. They currently have the blue ray 2 for $232.

You'll have it brand new and won't have to worry about the seller.

u/wifflebb · 3 pointsr/Watchexchange

Is this different from the one that currently sells for $175 new on Amazon?

u/Jarosticy · 3 pointsr/Watches

Just got an Orient Ray II for my birthday off Amazon.

I really like it.

Orient Ray II i Orient Bambino

u/Uptons_BJs · 3 pointsr/Watches

I mean, ok, if we were to compare Orient and Seiko, I think Orient wins overall.

For instance, the Orient Ray II is $159:
https://www.amazon.com/Orient-Japanese-Automatic-Stainless-Diving/dp/B01AK5TQE0/ref=sr_1_1?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1510583470&sr=1-1&nodeID=7141123011&psd=1&keywords=orient+ray+II

The Direct Seiko Competition (SKX009) is $203:
https://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SKX009K2-Divers-Automatic-Stainless/dp/B000OP1M6M/ref=sr_1_1?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1510583493&sr=1-1&nodeID=7141123011&psd=1&keywords=seiko+skx

The Orient gets you a bit better bang for the buck with hacking and handwinding. Something that the Seiko doesn't give you. Now if we look at the look at Seiko's cheaper option, the SNZF15 at $139:

https://www.amazon.com/Seiko-Stainless-Steel-Automatic-SNZF15/dp/B001ELSSOO/ref=sr_1_16?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1510583493&sr=1-16&nodeID=7141123011&psd=1&keywords=seiko+skx

The Seiko SNZF15 doesn't hack or handwind, has only 100m water resistance, and although I haven't seen the two side by side, I'm willing to bet that Orient has slightly better quality materials/finishing than the Seiko 5.

Now the amusing thing about the Invicta is this, it uses Seiko's own movement that they use for $200-800 watches, yet they pack it in watches that come in under $100. Their quality and materials aren't even that bad, no worse than Seiko 5!

u/shinbr · 2 pointsr/Watches

Orient(owned by Seiko) has the Ray 2 and the Mako 2 for $20 less than the skx and they have hacking, hand winding, and generally better build quality. A lot of people on this subreddit prefer the SKX because of its heritage though.

Hmmm, for me a daily watch is something that is versatile with most of my wardrobe and looks good. My two daily watches I spring for are the Bulova moonwatch and Orient Blue Ray, and hopefully the Seiko SARB035 soon. I would say dive watches, chronographs, field watches, etc. As for The Fifth watches, they won't garner much respect/attention from watch enthusiasts due to quality for the price, marketing strategies, and quartz movement, but if you like the look, buy it!

My recommendations for similar minimalistic watches would be anything from the Timex Fairfield line, Braun, Skagen, the Tisell bauhaus, Junkers, Junghans Max Bill, Nomos, Stowa, or dress watches in general from brands such as Citizen, Seiko, Tissot, Frederique Constant, and Hamilton, as they tend to have minimalistic dials.

You're welcome man, happy to help 👍! The MDV really is an awesome watch at an incredible value. As for Orient, if you're still looking for a diver then the Mako II is a good choice (also in blue and the funky "Pepsi" colors). For a bit more you can get the Ray II (also in blue and the stealthy "Raven", a greyish/black PVD coated version).

A second "Orient" choice is the Defender.

There are also a slew of Seiko 5 automatics, too many to get into here that all fall around the $50 - $150 range. All the ones I listed above would be great automatics for daily wear. Good luck in your search man, if you have any other questions don't hesitate!

u/Weenie · 2 pointsr/Watches

Not a whole lot of reputable companies really tend to make two-tone watches in that price range because that inherently involves the use of cheap materials (like "gold" plating) which do not hold up or very expensive materials (like actual gold). However, Citizen and Bulova are pretty well respected and do make some models similar to what you are looking for.

Bulova

Citizen

That Citizen will probably be bigger than what you're looking for.

If you are willing to go with an all-stainless and blue dial without the gold accents, you open yourself up to a wide range of quality options, many with automatic movements. Such as-

Orient

Seiko

Seiko

Orient

Okay, a heart monitor means a smart watch, which isn’t really the thrust of this subreddit, but you might get some suggestions. Not from me though :-)

If you want something more watchy, I suspect a dress watch will be too delicate for you, as you’re young and want to dress it down too. So you want something more versatile. A diver might be good as it’ll dress up or dress down, looks good with a suit, in jeans, or on the beach.

The Orient Ray II is an attractive, well made diver with a good movement that might work for you.

If you do want something more traditionally dressy, Orient Bambinos are great, but they’re not tough. Check out the buying guide for more $0-250 suggestions.:-

Hi, I'm looking for a good first everyday watch that would be fine in situations such as interviews. My budget is about 200$ (can extend by a bit) and it'd be great if some suggestions are below budget. Some features I'd like:

  • Reasonably waterproof
  • Date(if possible)
  • Will last long for ~5 years

I've gone through the guide and I have two main ideas: Get the Orient Ray II (Blue) or get the Casio MDV106.

    Thanks in advance!

I'd look on watchrecon.com (or the app) for a blue Orient ray 2. You might fiind one bellow $100. Or you could stretch a bit and buy one new for about $130.. It's very versatile. You can wear it with a sui or casualy or even sporty.. It's a much better watch than any seiko 5 but if you must have a seiko than my pick would be the snkl41 or the black snkl43. It's elegant enough am can be dressed up or down easily. I also like its case with both brushed and polished surfaces..

Edit: there is also the snk381 that has numerals..
There are also some orients from the tristar line (with blue dials and bracelets)

Really, what type of watch do you want?

u/QuinnMil · 1 pointr/Watches

I'd personally go Orient. They have an in-house automatic movement and some really beautiful watches. In my opinion they're the absolute nicest watches you can get for usually under $200. Everyone says they feel like they're worth twice that much. I am constantly getting complements on mine.

Here's the one I wear.

and here's just a general amazon search. Theres some nice black ones as well. https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=orient+watch

Really not a fan of Hamilton. I'm not sure Why, they just don't seem to have that same elegance as most Swiss watches. Maybe it's the American influence.

The skx is a hugely iconic watch that is about as versatile as you Can get. Obviously it isn't a "luxury" brand though, which may have some influence on your decision.

A few more you might want to look at are:

Orient blue Ray 2 (which I own and absolutely love, it's my daily beater and is perfect for me. Can't fault it.)

Christopher Ward's Trident (I have this one as well but it's still sitting in the box a month later so I can't really give you my opinion on it)

Longines hydroconquest(doesn't have a ceramic bezel when most other watches at that price point do)

Tissot seasomething powermatic 1000.

Glycine Combat Sub.

Squale 1545
