I do think the Sharpmaker and strop will be a great start; some folks never move on to anything else. I’d definitely add the extra fine rods to start; the diamond rods you can get or add later. If you don’t have any heavy work (chip repair, reprofiling) waiting on the diamonds is more than fine.
The compounds are all slightly different. Lots of people like the green; the white is also very good. Personally I use one called Yellowstone

It’s different from the “regular “ compounds and IMHO it’s much better.
