This P35Xv6-PC4K4D 15.6" Notebook is a very decent choice that is not too heavy and will definitely run any game and facilitate any level of photoshop production or editing. The only thing it is short of is the touch screen..If he can go without that, it would be a brilliant pick one which will see you getting a machine with a gtx 1070 dedicated graphics card vs the 1060 you would get in the Razer blade..It also has a very nice storage, decent aesthetics and decent overall build quality.

I would actually recommend something different than the three you mentioned, I would recommend this P35Xv6-PC4K4D because it comes with UHD IPS like you want, a quad core i7, 1070 GPU which is a little more powerful than 1060 and can run the games you want with high settings with high FPs, 16 GB ram, 512 M2 SSD, backlit keyboard, all of that while still having very good build quality and light weight for the power at 5.29 lbs plus you get 2 years global warranty and it fits well in your budget.

14" is fine. Normally with a smaller screen, you have a lighter laptop. On a bigger screen, your viewing experience can be crisper but the trade off is the laptop is heavier. Basically, on a smaller screen there is more condensing the resolution but the difference in viewing is marginal.

Anyway, there are only two laptops with a 1070 that I would recommend with that budget:

  • GIGABYTE P35XV6-PC3. It's $1349 Open Box on Newegg but with the 5% coupon, it will bring it down to roughly $1280. It also has a 1070 and got solid reviews on Amazon.

  • GIGABYTE P57Xv6-NE2 at a 5% discount is $1330. It is open box like the laptop above but does not include Rocket League.

Both of the above laptops are made by Gigabyte, a good company, that doesn't make their laptops look too flashy.

Now on to the 1060 laptops. I couldn't narrow down the search too much because there are so many great laptops available. I did, however, do a Newegg search using certain criteria. Any of these laptops will be great.

Personally, I prefer a lighter laptop and the fact that some of these laptops are bundle deals is very enticing. Also, it is very easy to add an SSD to your laptop so don't feel like you NEED an SSD on purchase. If the laptop you want only comes with a HDD that is fine. Simply buy a Kingston, Sandisk or Samsung SSD and install it.

And if you notice that some laptops are 3GB 1060s while others are 6GB, don't worry. According to benchmarks, 6GB has a moderate boost over the 3GB.

  • Lastly, Here is a search I did on XoticPC. Each of these are great. The only wild card is XOTIC G61 RAIDER because that is their own brand name laptop and I have no experience with it.

I would ask yourself if you need the 32GB of RAM,and what you would need it for. You could probably get a considerably cheaper one if you don't need that. There's also not a huge difference between the 6th gen and 7th gen CPUs, when it comes to performance.

If you ended up picking a different version of the GS63VR, be aware of two display issues that can be present:

  • Some Best Buy models seem to use a worse quality display. If you're buying from Best Buy, make sure it has the excellent 90%+ sRGB Samsung PLS (IPS) panel.
  • The 4K models use a pentile not-true-3840x2160 display. If you want 4K / 3840x2160, there are other options that use true 3840x2160 displays.

EDIT: You can also get GTX 1070 laptops for this price.

Depends what you want to do.
If you want to do gaming then get a 10 series laptop. There gigabyte one on amazon with a 1070 m.2 sata 512GB ssd with a slot for another if you want to add an NVMe drive and 1TB HDD for $1999.

If I was to look for a laptop at any price point I would try to get one with a Kaby Lake CPU so I can watch 4K Netflix and any other DRM that might require it. Then for gaming a 10 series GPU like the GTX 1050 which is around 50% faster than the 960m in your top laptops there.
