Most of the security assumptions with a hardware wallet are based upon you keeping those 24 words private and secure and safe. I would suggest you either get a metal stamp kit - https://www.amazon.com/PandaHall-Jewelry-Alphabet-Characters-36-Piece/dp/B01J7Q5UVG/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1517972479&sr=8-17&keywords=metal+stamp+kit

or https://cryptosteel.com/

to insure your backward phrase is waterproof , fireproof and won't corrode quickly.

Do not tell people your massive wealth in BTC either to insure you are not kidnapped or tortured for your 24 words

If you are very paranoid you can split the 24 words up into 2 parts and place them elsewhere but than you might want a 2nd ledger that is mirrored in case you lose one of the parts.

Do not keep your ledger with the backup phrase

If you are really paranoid and want to start questioning the security assumptions of the manufacturers of the HW wallet themselves -- check here to see how to audit the ledger -

https://support.ledgerwallet.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005321449-How-to-verify-the-security-integrity-of-my-Nano-S-

or buy a trezor and setup a multisig between the ledger and trezor

or use a Shamirs Secret sharing 2-3 "paper" (but use metal instead) wallet

The list can go on but we are getting into some really extreme levels of paranoia that it is best to consult with an hired expert beyond this.
