These are the only kinds of gifts I really like. Unless it's something non-practical that I really, really want or is very thoughtful(like, a video game that just came out or the couple of times I've received meaningful jewelry), I'm very happy to receive things like kitchen appliances I need or socks or even grocery store gift cards.

However, some girls don't like it. It really depends on how your girlfriend is, and you know her best. I'd think if she's moving out, something like a Kitchenaid mixer for her new place would be a very welcome gift if she likes to cook. Not sure if you were looking to spend that much though. I know I pretty much died when I opened the box and saw mine. You could also go for something decorative, kind of in between practical/typical gift territory and keep it cheaper. I love southern comfort food so how about some fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, mac & cheese, biscuits and a veggie of your choice. Iced tea as a drink and for dessert go with banana pudding (the kind with the cookies and whipped cream). Now I'm hungry!
