Can always buy something like this its not perfect, but its better than nothing.

I've heard this too. In-door cats do need something to play with when you aren't home so they don't get bored and, so they get some exercise on their own. Perhaps something like this.
Never, ever leave anything for your cat if it has bits or pieces that can be ripped off. This includes fur, the plastic eyes/noses of those toy mice, the tails of toy mice/other toy types, feathers, string of any type, etc. A cat CAN and WILL tear toys apart and swallow the pieces, which can lead to obstructions. I wouldn't even leave crinkle balls out - those can compress small enough to be swallowed, and thus potentially choked on.
