All the lights used a part of a Philips Hue system. There is a bulb in the lamp, two bloom lights for the wall, and a Hue Lightstrip inside the PC. They are controllable from my phone/pc. They are RGB, and the Hue system allows for some pretty fun colors!

Apparently I read that wrong. Is it the 1st one or this one? https://www.amazon.com/Philips-LightStrip-Dimmable-Compatible-Assistant/dp/B00I12XOES

u/kodack10 · 2 pointsr/homeautomation

The price usually and it will advertise as old version. Here is one on Amazon

The new model has slightly better color saturation and goes for $90 while the old one goes for $49

u/super57287 · 2 pointsr/Hue

$49 on amazon. I thought about, but the Lightstrip Plus seems so much more versitle. Brighter, better whites, dimmer at low settings, and extendible.

>I can understand the use of referral links and lots of people say they don't care. Nor do I honestly, except he wasn't contributing to this subreddit. He posted the exact setup 9 months (and 8 months) ago, this means he's here for the sole purpose to gain profit.
>
>Sure, he spent a lot of money, it's not disruptive, it's victimless, it doesn't hurt anyone and it's not a big deal. But it seems as if he's only here to earn money, he didn't even show a walkthrough of the computer build, he isn't a regular, he doesn't contribute to discussion. He posted multiple times like I've already mentioned and nothing has changed in all those posts.
>
>He's not here to show people his setup, he didn't even build anything. He's here to profit off us. Multiple posts of the same setup with all the affiliate links in every post, including links to something like a phone...
>
>Also, the problem is links like this act as infections. For approximately 24 hours (I think) after you've clicked a referral link, he will get a portion of the sale on anything you buy, so if you click a link to see the price of the something or investigate, he will earn money off everything you purchase in the next 24 hours off Amazon.

>Not so bad though, right? Well, his Reddit username is "BlackWhite01", his Imgur username is "blackandwhitebattlestation", and he's been posting this absolutely identical set up on both Imgur and Reddit multiple times for a year.

>He did not intend to show off his battlestation, or even his computer build, he intended to come here and make money off of /r/battlestation and /r/buildapc mainly, but he's posted to a lot of other subreddits as well - presumably to pay off this setup and the ridiculous chair ($1,500).

>What really pisses me off is that he's also included affiliate links to stupid products like his phone. His phone?! It's fucking /r/buildapc.

Well the generation 1 light strip is cheaper http://amzn.to/2hRNdS3 and for what you want to do may be a better option.

I went the opposite where I cut off the power supply and the light strip and soldered on a larger power supply 5amp and added a 5050 light strip at 4m long seemed to work OK.

I I wanted was the ZigBee controllers.
Here is a fls after market controller http://amzn.to/2j5bQXw that will also work with the Philip hues

It was from Costco, I bought it about a year ago. I think it was this one, but if you search "led strip with remote" on Amazon, you'll see several that are a lot cheaper.

Have a nearby outlet or space for a large UPS? Philips also makes a LED strip which works with that wireless switch. Recharging the UPS would get a little annoying though so an outlet would be best.

What is your budget? If you're looking for the top-of-the-line item, this would be it:

http://www.amazon.com/Philips-259982-Personal-Lightstrip-Frustration/dp/B00I12XOES/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408976663&sr=8-1&keywords=hue+light+strip

Controllable by your phone with a ton of settings. You can also opt for the bulbs instead of the light strip. Both ways will run you around $200 (includes the wireless module).

Highly recommend Phillip's Hue products, they're great and the API is pretty neat to work with. They have a light strip which integrates perfectly.
