They have these manual treadmills that are available. It's nothing too fancy, but it would eliminate you having to stop and turn and they're not super expensive compared to the electric versions.
These things remind me of the "Endless Pool" commercials.
I'd enjoy a manual treadmill hooked up to something like Skyrim with a screen (without VR).
Things don't have to be super immersive to be fun, you'd get a ton of exercise and feel like you've actually explored a world with your two feet. VR seems to have its own challenges that will need addressing such as not being able to play for more than 15 min at a time due to inner ear issues.
