Slip mats are for DJs to cue records. You don't need them unless you wanna mix or scratch. I use a pair of these plain white antistatic ones and even those get staticy sometimes. I can spray the underside with Static Guard spray and Gruv Glide if it gets really dry.
Anything like this should do the trick. If it's got a ton of static you may want to look into an anti-static mat for your turntable as well.
