I've been to Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris, Interlaken, Florence, Rome and just outside of Milan in Lake Como/Menaggio out of those that you just listed.

Don't spend too much time in Milan. The Duomo is spectacular, but unless you're into fashion like me, there's not much else worth seeing under time constraints. Also, when you say Interlaken, I hope you are including Gimmelwald! It's only a 45 minute cheap train/cable car ride away. Trust me, you will thank me after your trip I garantee it ;)!

I would suggest that you go to Cinque Terre also before heading to Florence (about 1.5 hour train ride) and do the full hike.

Now for the Eurail pass. Every time you want to take the train using your pass, you have to get a ticket printed by the cashiere at the ticket desk. After that, you board the train and at some point during the ride, a man will be walking around stamping your ticket. At first, I was giving the guy my ticket with my Eurail pass at the same time, so he would stamp both. However, I started giving them my ticket only without my pass and they would (90% of the time), only stamp my ticket without asking to see/stamp my pass. I guess they don't always check to see whether the ticket was acquired using the pass and probably focus more on checking the date and time. Once I'd get off the train, I'd erase my entry using this exact pen (I paid 4-5$ max for it, not 24$ like Amazon suggests!). I tried many pens prior, and this was the only one that completely erased from the Eurail pass.

Now, it's up to you to chose how many travel days you would like to have on your pass. I traveled Europe in the summer of 2010, and if I remember correctly, I bought the pass with 7 days of travel, when I actually needed 10 in my initial itinerary just in case. I ended up using it for about 14 voyages. It's a risk to take, and I wouldn't want to influence your decision. Remember that if you get caught, you will probably lose your pass altogether.

Oh man, .38 pens are the best! Have you ever tried the erasable ones? That was one of my best discoveries when I was in Japan!

Speaking of Japan, I got on a big whiskey kick while I was there. What's your go-to? And do you have an opinion on whiskey stones?
