I have had tons of different colors of hair, including purple, green, and blue. Honestly, every time i've gotten my hair dyed at a salon, it gets on EVERYTHING. However, when I do it myself (I get the dye from Sally's) it stays on my hair perfectly fine. I've just learned how to dye my hair myself. I use pravana and directions.

So I did soft smoky amethyst last year and remember the struggle. My hair is light so the color fell out in like two days. Literally. Now I just keep my hair blonde, but to keep it from getting brassy, I mix Pravana Chromasilk Vivids in Violet into my conditioner once a week or so and it really helps! It only takes the tiniest (half a pea sized) amount to get what I want out of it, but if you want vivid, this may be your product. I gave up on purple shampoo because I just think it straight up doesn't work for me. This stuff is pigmented enough to perma stain my shower walls, so hopefully it will give you what you want!

It's definitely a process and you should have it done by a pro, especially for the first time!

My solution for having to maintain lavender was to color it a deep purple, Pravana Violet to be specific, and it faded really gracefully until it ended up at a pretty silver/lavender.

I loved that color so much and I'll probably go back to it as soon as my employment situation allows!

I actually use Pravana
I've been dying over my purple for about three years now - so it sticks pretty good even when it starts to fade, since there's so much purple in it now. But the Pravana works great!

Adore African Violet turned blue on me too...apparently it's something that happens a lot. Maybe try to fade it more quickly by shampooing with clarifying shampoo in hot water and then go over it with a more pink based purple like Adore's Purple Rage (I've never used that specific color personally but I am a fan of Adore in general).

I had good luck with Pravana Chromasilk Violet (https://www.amazon.com/Pravana-ChromaSilk-Vivids-Violet-3-0oz/dp/B001K6CPYC) in that it turned a very pretty and saturated blue-based purple on me. BUT that is also the worst bleeding I have ever experienced, pillows, sheets, towels, for weeks afterwards so be warned. my Pravana hair here: http://imgur.com/a/nkjvW (note: in that picture my hair wasn't fully bleached, more highlighted and bleached ends so there's still some brown. if it had been fully bleached it would have come out an even brighter richer color)
