It's fantastic. I was skeptical the same as you and initially started my search looking only at solid wood desks. However, living in NYC I would not want to have an 80+ lb, expensive desk. I at least know I can throw this desk away before a major move if need be. There is no bowing or sagging in the center at all and, for the price, it is absolutely worth it.
In short, don't be off-put by the lack of solid core. It's a great desk. I just ordered one of these to screw under it, centered beneath the keyboard. I'm in love with this setup and I keep finding ways to improve it.
My fav is the xp-pen 22e, straightforward setup, and no complaints in performance. As another user mentioned the larger size creates a reach at certain angles so I set mine up on a 3rd party drawing tray turned upside down heres the link I setup a secondary keypad along with the cabling underneath in the tray compartment so I have extra hotkeys and no clutter.
