I asked a question a couple of months ago about the Google adaptor's durability and mostly got ignored, but one fine user recommended these wire protectors that I think should help protect the cable. I wrapped these around my EarPods and they do a good job protecting them in all kinds of weather, and from wear-and-tear.
I also use a phone without a headphone jack for music consumption, and the included LeTV USB-C adaptor is quite shitty. I was afraid it would break, plus music would stop playing through the headphones after a while, and I had to reboot to get the phone to recognize the adaptor again.
I stopped using it and bought a couple of braided USB-C 3.5mm braided adaptors off Aliexpress for $2 to $3. They work great and are quite long (this can be a nuisance). I pull at the adaptor all day long and it's still holding together. Haven't had a single issue yet, and I listen to music while walking when it's super cold outside.
However these types of adaptors are not compatible with the Pixel 2 since they don't have a DAC.
