I don't know if you'd be willing to purchase a book, but this is one of the coolest books I've ever read on cars. It's a car care manual, but it often reads like one of those "How Things Work" books. Cross sections, tons of diagrams, it's awesome (check out the results for a Google Image search to see what I mean, although even this is just a small fraction of what's in the book). It might be a bit outdated but I think most of it is still relevant, especially the mechanics. It deconstructs every aspect of the car to an easy to understand level, and has tons of pictures on how to fix essentially any problem.

This book will cover every major component and type of maintenance for modernish and old vehicles alike. This is essentially an ELI15 for working and learning about cars. Couldn't recommend it more, it's really easy to understand and extremely in depth
