The headphone cables unplug from each ear, and a new cable exact replacement can be ordered for US $12.60 and up. Currently the Sennheiser part finder seems to be broken at http://en-us.sennheiser.com/service-support-part-finder. In the past that is where I've bought these cables for $12.55. There are also a variety of other vendors who sell the cables, or upgrade cables for more money.

I bought this to replace a broken cable a few months ago for my HD600. Has been working perfectly.

This is like identical to what comes with the 6XX and 58X. Difference is it is 1/4" terminated instead of 1/8" + 1/4" adapter. Or anything on Amazon to be honest. They have cheaper ones than $23.

You can also order these directly from Sennheiser and save a dollar or 2 with about a 2 week wait. If you don't mind spending some money and are concerned about audio quality, you can order custom-made quality Sennheiser comparable candles from Mimic Cables. Good luck. There are cables under $20, but those have 3.5 mm plugs with 6.35 mm adapters.
The splitter is a big deal its heavy and bulky. Just buy the stock cable from amazon
The dents in the mesh shouldn't effect the use at all. I'd buy a replacement cable. The cable on the 650 is removable, after all.

They seem to be proprietary cables. Someone more knowledgeable than me may know them but idk. Here's an Amazon link for the official ones but there are aftermarket options.
