I bought the foamcore sheet at Hobby Lobby. They have both black and white. I usually pin the pieces together for most of the sections to make sure they stay in place while drying. I then will leave the pins in the main shell of the box because you won't see them anyways since that stays in the box at all times. The other pins I remove once everything has dried enough to stay together.

As far as glue, I always use Elmer's standard glue. It holds great, it's cheap and really doesn't need to be anything better than that. You don't need much either which was something I struggled with early on. Just a little bead down the edge is just fine. Don't use super glue! I was in a pinch and we were snowed in and I tried using it and it ate away some of the foam so I just decided not to use it and wait until I could get the proper glue.

Lastly, getting the straight edges isn't tough you just need to right tools. Having a cutting mat, a knife like this that you can break off the ends to keep it sharp, and a metal metric ruler is really what you need to get good results. If you do go to Hobby Lobby by chance for any of this, remember they always have a 40% off coupon on their website you can use towards one item. I used this on the cutting surface since it was the most expensive item and you just need to mention which item you would like to use it on.
