Rocksmith 2014 on Amazon.com is listed as DRM: Steam, so I'll assume that it is correct in this case. But don't take my word for it. You could just send a mail to humble, the sale lasts another two days, they should hopefully respond in that timeframe.


Remember that you still need the cable to connect your guitar.

As sudobyte says, the unfortunate answer is that, yes, you do need to buy Rocksmith 1.

Luckily, RS1 is on sale on Amazon right now for $7.50, which is a steal. I had been waiting for a good deal like this for a while, and I snapped it up as soon as I heard about it a day or two ago. I've been having a lot of fun with the songs from RS1. There's a lot of good beginner level songs in there too, if you're just starting out.

You may also want to get the RS2014 Disc Import tool, which will take almost every song from RS1 and make them available in RS2014. This was on sale last night for $7.50 but it looks like its back at the regular price of $9.99.

If you're bummed to have to spend money on another game just to be able to buy certain DLC (I know it kind of pissed me off initially), try to think of it this way - for $17.50, you're adding 50 new songs to your RS2014 game, and opening up a lot of awesome DLC for your use. Since DLC songs are $3 a pop, getting 50 songs for less than $20 is a great deal no matter how you slice it!

I had never even touched a guitar before I bought rocksmith.

I still wouldnt call myself good, but because of rocksmith I have learned enough that I really can play songs to the point of you being able to recognize what I'm playing. It was also pretty fun even early on, which makes it a lot easier to practice-- you're just dicking around right? meanwhile you slowly gain those skills and knowledge needed to play. The 'guitarcade' games are especially good for this, theyre little minigames you play the guitar to control, and they really help you learn about what fret is where.



Also I strongly suggest the PC. I've spent far more time in rocksmith playing custom dlc than I've spent playing the normal songs. I think you can get custom dlc on the 360 but its harder and might need a modded console, and ps3 cant do it at all.

you will need to go pick up the cable on your own though, unless you feel like jumping through hoops to use a non-official cable, but I don't recommend that.

You can use that same cable in other pc programs, which is cool too. (thats true of any platform though, its the same cable)

I wasn't able to get RS 2014 working with an external audio interface on Windows (neither input nor output, though I hear it's possible with some config/system tweaking), but it works perfectly on my Macbook through both my Focusrite Saffire and RME interfaces. Playing without the cable is not officially supported, so your mileage may vary.
