This doesn't have a hood but also doesn't have a pocket.

I have an old one laying around, haven't tried an r1 but they look the same. Ritmore dye if you don't like the color.

I love my army surplus microgrid quarter zip, it's amazing (LINK, but you can usually find one for less than $20 on eBay or at a military surplus store). You get all the benefits of a Melanzana without the annoying bit where you actually have to go buy a Melanzana, and it's basically a Patagonia R1 for $100 less. I also prefer the modularity, so hoodless was a huge bonus for me. Other than that, it's super basic. Patagonia Capilene base layer and a puffy outer layer.

Wool is great, but heavy. I usually have a wool beanie and sometimes I'll bring a Pendleton wool shirt for the aesthetic, but I think the quarter zip performs a lot better.
