Actual military member here. We use shirt stays (I think normal people call them garters). Uncomfortable, but you'll look crisp as can be. I recommend the stirrup style rather than the clip/clasp style to prevent being snapped if they come undone. I've known Marines to wear 8 shirt stays at once to look sharp for special events, but one pair should work well for a regular civilian wearing pants.

You might be thinking of the ninja suit.

I’m talking about this.

I'm sitting in the queue for classic wow so my response might be scary fast. Anyways: there's padded long sleeve shirts designed for such a purpose. I get that this may have been a quick adaptation and he went with it but as a wildlife photographer, I'd invest in a jacket/undershirt like this./ref=twister_B07C532MMQ

Nah. Pretty sure those are just multicam BDUs.

u/juliewho · 6 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

Check your shapewear for bra hook loops. I know Spanx has them hidden all over, but you could attach a garter strap directly to the shapewear! If you don't find any loops, you could get shirt-stays that will connect to the shapewear without them.

Get your shirt pleated (cutting a few inches from the back). Most tailors I worked with generally charge $8-$15. Shirt Garters works too but I don't generally wear it unless I know I'm being photographed or at a formal event. http://www.amazon.com/Black-Military-Straight-Shirt-Stays/dp/B0001XLP9Q/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1313683235&sr=8-3

^^^^ that is what her jacket is inspired by.

However you can not buy elas real jacket. There might be a more similar looking one but its definitely not a well known jacket type. Most if not all cosplayers have her jacket professionally made or they sewed it themselves.

If you want to wear a tucked in shirt you could get some of these shirt stays. I've used them before and they work great.

u/icomethird · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

In the short term, you could get some [shirt garters](
http://www.amazon.com/White-Military-Straight-Shirt-Stays/dp/B0007LI8QU/). One end goes on your shirt tails to keep them down, the other end attaches to your socks to keep them up. Tension does the rest.

The best part, though, is when one of the sock clips comes off.

It's kind of in the style of the Vietnam era jungle fatigue, no shoulder pocket back then. Special Forces would dye them black.

u/aj_chappy · 2 pointsr/Ultralight

This doesn't have a hood but also doesn't have a pocket.

I have an old one laying around, haven't tried an r1 but they look the same. Ritmore dye if you don't like the color.

u/snubdeity · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Oh god go buy some shirt stays like this.

If you're wearing socks, they will give you abso-fucking-loutely perfect shirt tucks. They'll even pull the back of the shirt down after you stand up, so it doesn't get that back sag you see a lot from people sitting down often.

Note: Wearing them often may results in major hair loss where they lay on your legs. Also, they pinch your knees sometimes. But hey, perfect tucks!

I bought a flack jacket at an Army surplus store. Just went in, found it, paid for it, walked out. Easy as that. They're not exactly controlled. Just a quick search on Amazon away.

Now to get some shirt garters

I love my army surplus microgrid quarter zip, it's amazing (LINK, but you can usually find one for less than $20 on eBay or at a military surplus store). You get all the benefits of a Melanzana without the annoying bit where you actually have to go buy a Melanzana, and it's basically a Patagonia R1 for $100 less. I also prefer the modularity, so hoodless was a huge bonus for me. Other than that, it's super basic. Patagonia Capilene base layer and a puffy outer layer.

Wool is great, but heavy. I usually have a wool beanie and sometimes I'll bring a Pendleton wool shirt for the aesthetic, but I think the quarter zip performs a lot better.

Polypro baselayers.

Dryducks rain jacket and or pants.

Inexpensive grid fleece mid layer (or use a synthetic hoodie if you alreay have... don't use cotton.)

Uniglo or cheap down jacket

Underwear: any synthetic athletic mid thigh boxer-brief. No tighty whities, no short shorts, no cotton, not cotton boxers. You'll sweat and chafe.

Socks: Darn tuff are the best for the money, however any wool or synthetic will do. I recommend crew length and more thin than heavy. Heavy at night is fine around the camp, but hiking I'm using a runner's sock.

Shirt: any synthetic athletic shirt. I prefer long sleeves because you'll be hiking in sun all day...

Shorts/pants: Columbia makes good inexpensive pants. Synthetic golfing pants are another cheap option. or... althletic shorts.

Hiking hat: mesh trucker cap.

Cold hat: buff + watchcap.

As always avoid cotton, it absorbs moisture, gets cold, takes too long to dry.

Speaking of his jacket, I've always loved that jacket. I don't know how official this is, probably not at all, but I found this on Amazon. It's been in my wishlist for years, never came in stock.

Thermal Underwear:

Desert sand, cream, or white thermal underwear may be worn under the ABU. Thermal underwear will not be worn as an outer garment. Thermal underwear will not be visible under the ABU trouser and coat except at the neck.

I have a sand colored half-zip shirt that I was issued that is quite warm. I’d send a pic but we just moved and it’s still packed away (but I need to find it for winter). It’s similar to this one — Rothco ECWCS Gen III Mid-Weight Underwear Top (Level II), Desert Sand, L https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0040RWJ5S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_fQ4VDbTSW029S

It's worth trying, but keep in my u/postHocCertainty's points below. He's right, regardless of the downvotes.

I have both wool and synthetic, and run/hike/backpack/camp in both. Both are fine. Wool excels for multi-day trips because it doesn't hold the stink; even treated synthetics stink eventually. But for one run, that's not a consideration...it's just personal preference.

I run in merino tops sometimes, but one of my favorite warm shirts is actually one of the cheapest...the military issue waffle shirt.

u/CenturioLegioX · 0 pointsr/wma

This is my military background speaking, but maybe something like a UBACS? The sleeves are made from stronger material while the body is breathable. You can even find ones with elbow padding included. Something like this? https://www.amazon.com/CQR-Combat-Tactical-Assault-Military/dp/B078N27SY3/ref=sr_1_12?dchild=1&keywords=combat+shirt&qid=1572890399&sr=8-12

You'll want a tank-shirt and shirt-stays. If you don't like Amazon, you can usually find the shirt-stays at Army/Navy stores, and the tank-shirt should be at any Walmart. The tank-shirt is basically a wife-beater (A-shirt), but with smaller arm/neck holes. The shirt-stays attach to the bottom of the tank-shirt (front and back), and clip on to the top of your socks. Put your boxers/etc. on OVER the shirt-stays.

Aside from the obvious benefits, it also makes you feel more "put together", and you'll find the undershirt (shirt-stays or not) is great for keeping sweat off of your outer clothes. Plus, if anyone ever asks what the hell you're wearing, you don't have to explain it as "I'm hiding my man boobs", but instead as "my socks keep falling down".

The shirt-stays will fall apart eventually, so keep a few pairs in your dresser.
