6-8 hours is reasonable for a healthy adult dog, but seniors (9-10 is solidly in the "senior" range for most breeds) can't hold it as long. My 9ish year old dog lasts 7-8 hours while I'm at work, but I'm already thinking about plans/arrangements to get him outside more often, because I know 7-8 hours won't work for him forever.

Accidents happen. Whose responsibility is it to take him out normally? It's kind of you to assist them. Can you ask that person about the dog's normal bathroom routines? He might be used to pooping on walks, in a certain area, or after he eats/drinks. The better you can follow his normal routines, the less he'll have accidents.

Remember that if he's house trained, he doesn't want to have accidents. They're just that: accidents.

>Due to the dog's leg, it cannot balance properly when squatting, which means that it needs someone else to help it by holding it up.

A harness for balance might help, so you can assist him without needing to bend over and put extra strain on your back. Here's one for rear support and one for general body support but there are lots of options. I've also used a towel under the dog's abdomen in a pinch.
