Surprised this thread lasted this long without this one. This particular Seiko is the big brother to the quite popular SNK803/805/807/809 line. Typical 7S movement means no hacking and hand winding. You get a Hardlex crystal, day and date complications, famous Seiko lume, and a display back. The larger case is sometimes preferred by those who find the SNK line's 37mm a bit too small. The main series is the 07/09/11/15, featuring a bead blasted case finish (matte) and a nylon strap which is matched to the color of the dial. The 13 has mixed finishing of brushed and polished and comes on a metal bracelet (folded end links and folded links, nicely concealed), and the 17 is PVD coated with a PVD coated bracelet as well (for that tacticool look), and has lumed numerals (all the others just have lumed indices).

• Wallet: Surprisingly, I carry one of my own wallets. I just recently switched to a Horween Waxed Flesh Natural CXL (reversed) card holder. I wanted to see how it would wear in.
  
• Watch: I recently picked up Seiko SNZG11 Automatic and need to remake my old strap to fit a 22mm watch. The band is Shinki Hikaku Shell Cordovan.
  
• Sunglasses: I love my Randolph Engineering Corsairs. Highly recommend checking out one of the last actual made in the US sunglass companies.
  
• Belt: I've been wearing my UK Bridle belt and it has been wearing in nicely. I'll have to take a picture of new vs. used soon.
  
• Misc: Burts Bees.

I am assuming you are talking about the SNK807? If so, I feel like the larger SNZG series might be a good option. The blue version is the SNZG11.

Are there threads here that collect coupon/deals for watch retailers? I've seen them on other watch forums but all are out of date. The Seiko SNZG11 is the ticket but with a band it gets up there from what I originally budgeted. This is my first quality watch.

Another vote for the seiko 5. I'm getting a navy snk this weekend. If you want a bigger dial you can opt for the more expensive snzg variant.

The Seiko has to be set so you'll have to show him how to do it. That's why the Gshock is an easier choice and they have a lot of features young kids will like.

A little cheaper than your stated budget, but I'm a fan of field style watches. But it's just a matter of what you like.
