I was able to recently acquire a Shure PG42 USB microphone off eBay for a very reasonable price, about $100ish. They're discontinued officially (unfortunately), but they're still floating around out there used and there were some new ones at a decent price on Amazon UK. Originally retailed for around $200 or so. This is the actual make and model microphone that Markiplier and up until recently Jacksepticeye use.

Upgrading from the decent but noisy Samson C01U USB... I can tell you that I have quickly fallen in love with the Shure PG42 USB. Shure went ahead and made the best damn USB microphone ever. Quick and easy enough to plug and play, but has just the right bells and whistles to make up for the fact that my home office is not a damn sound booth with plush egg crate walls. It has a Noise Reduction pad switch that makes it to where my voice never ever clips and it takes out all of the background noise. All of it. Also has a low frequency roll off adjustment to take out some of the electronic background fuzz.

Now I run it through an effects rack that I set up specifically for my voice in Adobe Audition... some noise reduction, dynamics processing, EQ and a gain adjustment. The end result is ... well... you be the judge.

One thing that I really like about this is that with the onboard pad switch to reduce noise, and with the proper gain settings in Windows (2 out of 100) and combined with the Audition effects... I don't really have to edit out breaths between sentences. A pet peeve of mine in voice over and especially LPs. It has just the right balance to where it picks up my voice perfectly but that other stuff gets left on the floor. Saves so much time in the editing phase because I always try to edit that extra crap out.

Obviously... there are probably better XLR alternatives than this microphone, but if you don't want to have to mess with a mixer or setting up a home studio and you just want something that you can plug in and sound really good, I do recommend seeking out a Shure PG42 USB if you can find one.

IIRC Last time he said it was a Shure PG42-USB. Sadly they are no longer made. Closest replacement I could find is Shure PG27-USB.
