This drive does not suffer the same BS NAND-swap as the S60 for those wondering.

You don't necessarily need to wipe the hard drive; you can select which drive you want the computer to boot from in the bios. If you want to wipe the drive, it's really easy. Open up your file explorer and right click on the drive, then click format. In the popup, name the drive and select "NTFS" in the dropdown menu. This will completely erase the drive.

Note: Don't format your hard drive until you are completely ready with the new system, and are sure you will never need the files on it ever again. Your current computer will stop working once you do this, and the data on the drive can never be retrieved. Ideally do this by installing your hard drive into your new system once it is already working, then erasing it.

As for pulling the trigger...if you don't need the computer immediately, I think you should pick up things as they go on sale; you could probably save yourself ~$20 over the course of a week just by checking for price drops before buying. For example, the Trion 150 goes for $50 on Newegg every once in a while; you could also get slightly better deals on every part by ordering them at their low prices. That's really pinching pennies, though. If upgrading early will make you happy, then by all means go for it.

If you want to buy things today/tomorrow, consider a few minor last-minute changes which might save you a few dollars.

  • Get the i5-6500 from Superbiiz. PCPartPicker doesn't show you that there's an extra $10 off there, bringing the price after shipping to $194.98.

  • Corsair RAM could be replaced by some cheaper options; you could save $3 by getting the G.Skill Aegis or even the Avexir Core instead. The RAM speed doesn't matter since the motherboard will automatically run RAM at 2133. Faster RAM only makes sense for extreme builds or barebone computers. If you're into that sort of thing, the Avexir also has a blue LED.

  • There's an Amazon Flash Sale right now, an S55 240Gb flash drive for $45. Hopefully you can get it? If not, not a big deal.

Other than that, everything looks good. Make sure you have some other device (a phone, work computer, etc.) to get help if needed; when you're salvaging and building, you won't have a functioning computer. Best of luck to you, when you decide to pull the trigger!

Could you go a bit lower on the SP S55? Like $38 shipped? Cause it's $45 shipped new from amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Silicon-Power-240GB-Internal-SP240GBSS3S55S25/dp/B00D4AVS6I
