I finally just re-ordered a 3-tube pack of spectra gel for $7.50 on Amazon... lasted over 400 rides for me. here

Since the chest strap is impedance based, it requires being very moist before it picks up reliably. When I use chest straps I give the electrodes a good old slobbery lick, and they always connect right up. Back in the “olden days” when the technology wasn’t so great, we would frequently steal electrode gel and put it on at the onset of the ride.

Can’t hurt to try if the “lick and stick” method isn’t working.
