Fellow Quebecer here, there is no legit poutine in Houston and this isn't me just being picky. Best to make it yourself.

The easiest way:

  1. order https://www.amazon.com/St-Hubert-Poutine-Gravy-Mix/dp/B008MOC11M for the gravy.
  2. pick up fries at wingstop/Jonathan's the rub. These have had the most authentic texture/flavor to the Belgian type fries we use.
  3. buy some cheese curds at Spec's. I've found them at the large one Downtown.

Easy to put together once you have all the components. Worth every penny too.

Something that gets lost in the translation from quebec french to english is the concept of "gravy" for poutine. While I haven't seen the recipe card, this looks like thanksgiving style turkey gravy.

While I'm sure your burger is delicious, I would in the future recommend buying this:

https://www.amazon.com/St-Hubert-Poutine-Gravy-Mix/dp/B008MOC11M/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1500763167&sr=8-1&keywords=st.+hubert+poutine+sauce

. It is somewhat expensive in the US but in Quebec people either buy this, another powdered poutine packet from the store (generic store brand) or in a can. It's a "gravy" but really more of a sauce made from beef or chicken stock that doesn't taste anything like what we would associate with gravy in the US. Big difference in flavor, texture, etc.

I have only had a packet made poutine gravy that my Canadian friend brought back to Texas for me (this is the type: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008MOC11M/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1414331519&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40 ). I like the taste of it but I've never been to Canada to have official poutine. I hope to make it up there next September.

We buy cheese curds at Target (I was surprised to see it there, in the cheese section near the hummus and premise sandwiches) and they are pretty tasty make sure to cute them into smaller sizes, take them out ahead of time and right before you pour on the gravy, microwave it for 10-15 seconds).

I've tried steak fries and standard fries, but our favorite is crinkle fries. They have all those nooks and crannies for the cheese and gravy to melt into. Plus they come out crispier than other fries.
