There are A few turntable models with 2 start/stop buttons that you could set up for left handed use. They're usually marketed towards DJ's.

Examples

Numark TTX

Stanton T62

The pitch controls on the Numark can be flipped but not on the Stanton, and any text on the table will be upside down, but what can A leftie do?

of course! any time.

if you post your local craigslist, we might be able to pick out the better deals on gear in your area for you. this will most likely be your cheapest option- buying vintage is almost always a great idea.

if you want to buy new, however, what you can get will depend on your budget. amazon has a decent table here i think now for around $75, which i don't have experience with but seems to have all the things you'd want in a nice starter table. the next options up are in the $150 level and higher, including this guy, this one and this one.

This says it's the Stanton 300 cartridge

A few more:

  • Numark TT200
  • Stanton T62
  • Stanton T92

And in the what not to buy:
Sony turntables (even if the 350 looks good as a 1200 clone, it's a lemon), ION turntables, Pioneer PL-990

Would any of these be suitable for my situation. (I do want to scratch)

As others have mentioned what you are looking for is a DVS system. You'll want DJ Turntables like these and you'll need an Audio Interface and a Mixer.

The Audio Interface can be complicated, because the two biggest names in DVS systems are both 'hardware locked'. You can only use them with their specific hardware. If you go with Traktor then the easiest starting point is a Trator Z2, which is a mixer with built in audio interface. If you go with Serato it's easiest to go with a Rane Sixty One which has it's own Audio interface.

That being said, if you aren't planning on trying to go pro you might not need Traktor or Serato and can save quite a bit of money. You'll still need those turntables above but you can use a basic DJ soundcard like this one with an [inexpensive mixer] (http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=115&cp_id=11503&cs_id=1150303&p_id=614320&seq=1&format=2) and use a different software package like Mixvibes Cross DJ - which supports DVS without a hardware locked audio interface. Going this route will save you over $600 vs the traktor solution or over $1000 vs the Serato solution.

I have a Stanton T.62 that was a solid upgrade from the not counter-weighted player I started with. I recommend it because its cheap ($200) and gets the job done well. Others will probably say that is shit too and you should buy vintage or something, but I love it.

Welcome to the club!

EDIT - For this you will also need to invest in a preamp that hooks up to your speakers. I use a Pyle Pro.
