Liquid electrical tape should fix the live wires problem. (Sorry, clear was the closest I could come to white.) It worked great on the power supply for my Dell after it frayed and I had to make some repairs.

Firstly it’s not essential.
Secondly that’s a pretty ghetto solution. If you want to do it properly get liquid electrical tape, I use clear but colour doesn’t matter.
