I have both, but stopped using the claws when I bought a decent set of of insulated gloves. They have a lot more uses than the claws. Just dive in & pull the pig apart.

  1. Do a dry run with your new smoker, spray the inside with pam, and smoke it for a few hours to kind of "burn in" your smoker. (with wood of course)
  2. Get a 30lb propane tank.
  3. Dual probe thermometer is a must, the gauge on the door can be off by as much as 20 or 30 degrees, I have the wireless ET-73 by Maverick Industries, it works ok, but If I had to do over I'd buy the i-grill ( dual probe with iphone app)
  4. Buy Meat Rakes
  5. BBQ Gloves
  6. Use wood chunks instead of chips. You'll get a thicker smoke for a longer period of time.

These Gloves, i can't live without.
I use them to pull my pork, pickup ribs, whole chickens, turkeys, etc off of the smoker.

Maybe you aren't cooking the pork long enough? Turn it over and give it another few hours, it should really just fall apart. Use something like this to protect your hands and just use your fingers. This will also help you locate any errant bone fragments or grisly bits.

I've done 10+ before and found using these

It didn't take too long, it is not like you are doing a competition turn in so with those and some bear claws it worked great. I have never tried a drill or kitchen aid, just seems like overkill

These gloves are absolutely amazing for bbq or any other really hot surface. Much more versatile than a good bbq mitt - I've even used these to pull pork.

I have the 18 1/2 version of this smoker and I frequented The Virtual Weber Bullet for a while. Great place to start, specifically with the smoker we share. I picked up a chimney, some paraffin fire starter cubes, stole a pair of my wife's pot holders and these bad boys. Have fun!

Just got these ones nothing fancy: Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue Insulated Food Gloves (Pair) - SR8037 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007ZGURK/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_7bxuub09HS0X5

I wanted something with fingers. I melted a pair though by starting to pick up the place setter... So don't do that. But they're fine handling BBQ temp meat and probes.

I would say neoprene gloves and bear claws total is like $27.

Late to the party, but nonetheless...GLOVES - what is more dextrous than the opposable thumb?

If you want to invest in some, I have a pair of these, and they are great for all the BBQ needs. Alternate? Waterproof and insulated, you can just dive in and do what needs doing. Pulling pork is a breeze, and managing racks is simple. Apply dish soap, and then wash your hands for cleanup. (I was checking Home Depot for the disposable nitrile, and came across these. I wonder if they'd function properly?)

I saw another version of this at a BBQ competition. The chef put on a pair of cheap cotton work-style gloves, although they might have been fire resistant and covered that with a disposable latex or nitrile gloves. It seemed like a fantastic approach.

Also, this place is in Canada so maybe with shipping/duty it ends up cheaper?

For the record, I have these and they are pretty good.

edit: sorry, didn't see the locally source reply until after posting.

What about something more functional? Like these insulated ones ?

I think you're having a hard time find any with images because they are meant to handle food. If the ink or decoration starts to run or fade, it's most likely getting into the food you're trying to safely handle so wouldn't be a large market for it. :)

Goodbye Eleven ... sniff sniff ... Man, I just got into Who about 6 months ago!

I really could use these Insulated BBQ Gloves for yarn dyeing escapades. It'd be nice to just reach into the dye pot, grab the skein and wring it out without bumbling the tools about. That first review really sold me on 'em
