if this is a pen and paper type deal utilizing the polyhedral dice, i'd suggest picking up Savage Worlds Deluxe with the Super Powers Companion.
Savage Worlds is the easiest RPG system to use and the easiest to modify with different settings to utilize such as sci-fi, fantasy, horror and modern.
I know this isn't what you asked for, and I am not trying to be a smartass.
I tried M&M and after fighting with the rules, I checked out Savage Worlds Super Powers Companion and was thrilled. They took the essence of M&M and just simplified it. It works every bit as well as M&M but without all the math needed.
The SPC and core rules will cost you less than $30 too.
