I went for the cushioned steering wheel cover. Some sort of memory foam stuff. Cheap, and fairly comfortable, less than 5 minutes to put it on - mostly spent getting the hair dryer so the rubber is soft enough to stretch it on. The plastic smell went away after about a week, so it wasn't too bad.
If you don't like the plastic ones, get leather, laced on steering wheel cover. It'll look nice, but you'll be spending a lot longer putting it on. Probably about 1-2 hours.
