I have the same QI and it does serve two purposes -- secondary charger + portability. And I do get the same 2.5 charges as you. But for OP's purposes a much cheaper solution would be something like a KINGDO Surface Power Supply Adapter 36W 12V 2.58A for Microsoft Surface Pro 3 & Pro 4 for $26 on Amazon. 317 reviews/4.5 stars.

AFAIK Best Buy sells what appears to be the MS charger for $60
It looks like anything on Amazon is NOT an MS charger but a copy. If buying there I'd let the Amazon reviews be my guide. Kingdo is tagged as the Amazon Choice.
There's a newcomer "Ostrich" with lifetime warranty but Id be careful ... only 11 reviews all with five stars... sounds like fake reviews. Watch it for a while, see if it holds up.
I bought a used SP3 on ebay and the 3rd party charger with it was garbage (it caused problems with the SP3). Didn't know if it was the changer or the unit having the problem so I ordered a new charger on Amazon and it's been working fine ever since (been about 4 months). Here's the one I bought:
