Only the first two are in print and in English. I got the first one at Barnes N Noble in store, and the second one on Amazon.

Volume 1

Volume 2

I'm from the UK. I just ordered the first 2 (and currently only available) light novels a couple of days ago.

Currently, the cheapest place you can buy the 1st book is on Wordery.

It's only 2p cheaper than Amazon. So if you'd prefer to buy from Amazon, go ahead. (I purchased both from Amazon).

The 2nd book is currently the cheapest on Book Depository. This is 85p cheaper than buying from Amazon.

Good luck! And enjoy reading!

Yes it does follow the same plot points, and yes read it from the beginning. Everything is better told in the novels, and you have missed a few character development parts of the story and also one part of ALO which is a foreshadowing of one ALO arc. I can't stress enough how everything is done better in the novels, especially Lizbeth's episode/arc/chapter and the fishing arc.

The links to the novels are on this sub's sidebar.

and I also recommend pre-ordering Volumes 1 & 2 on amazon to support the series. :)

I got These yesterday, from here and here. I've already read through a good 5th of the first one :D

Only the first 3 for now. There are some translations on this sub, but I prefer to just wait. I like holding a book and smelling that new book smell.

I'm still a bit new on figuring out all the different novels and manga, but those are the 3 I have right now. The author is also doing a Progressive story with more details on what happened floor by floor in SAO. The first manga edition is coming this month (Jan. 20th). It has more illustrations, but covers less story (I might actually prefer that since I doubt an anime for the Progressive material will be done so the illustrations are nice). I linked Amazon, but Barnes & Noble carries them, too. Or whatever major bookstore is available where you might live.

Edit: Here is the publisher's site

The manga is meh compared to the Light novels. I would read the LN for sure since the manga does not adapt the LN very good.

Volume 1 LN http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sword-Art-Online-Aincrad-Novel/dp/0316371246/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_y

Volume 2 LN http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sword-Art-Online-Aincrad-Novel/dp/0316376817/ref=pd_bxgy_b_text_y

Volume 3 LN http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sword-Art-Online-Fairy-Dance/dp/0316296422/ref=pd_sim_b_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=0XWE33FV35W0REB2C705 (This one is not out yet)

The official LN are very behind in English. Only two are released while the third as you can see comes out next month. In Japan 15 volumes are already out. What I recommend is buy these three to obviously support the franchise. If you want to continue reading which I am sure you will since this series is like crack then you can continue with the fan translated volumes. The fan translations are pretty good and can be found on the right hand side under useful links.

Volumes 1&2 cover Episodes 1-14 of the anime. The second volume containing some of the side stories.
Volumes 3&4 cover Episodes 15-25 of the anime.
Volumes 5&6 cover Episodes 1-14 of SAOII anime.
Volume 8(This volume consist of more side stories). Has a side story which is Episodes 15-17 SAOII anime.
Volume 7 covers Episodes 18-24 SAOII anime(Still airing btw).
Volume 9-15 is not animated yet. Also the books are still ongoing.

For the physical copies, here is the first one and here is the second. The second doesn't come out until the 26th, though.

I have no idea whether it's shipped from UK or America, it just tells me 11.49€ for Volume 2, for example on Amazon DE

The Light Novels are being officially released in English right now, every few months I believe. You can buy the 1st, 2nd, and pre-order the 3rd on Amazon.com
