I got a male Nigerian uro and he does the exact same thing. I can walk around and do stuff around his cage no problem, but the second I open it up he runs for the hills. Every once in a while I just grab him and hold him for a while, I don't do it that often so I am not sure if it is helping. I am sure she would appreciate being able to run around and would make her feel better about coming out of her cage.
