Lo mejor es que bajes el PLE y leas el tutorial que viene en su documentacion (el mas simple, usando nodos over y plus).. a partir de ahi, entras al sitio de vimeo (http://vimeo.com/thefoundry/videos) y ya.
El problema con este tipo de aplicaciones es que para cuando sale el libro ya hubo actualizacion del software y cambiaron menus o quitaron nodos..
