You should check out The Boys. It deals with some of the themes and motifs that you seem to be interested in.

edit* Had to find a different link since the wiki one didn't want to play nice with Reddit formatting. Search for the Wiki yourself, or perhaps get a copy of the first and read it for yourself. I found it to be pretty engrossing. It is rated for mature people however, some sexual scenes and such.

Anyone else who likes this sort of idea. The comic called "the boys" is a really good look at what superheroes would be like in reality. Fair warning. There's lots of gore an adult themes.

I bought it on a whim and really enjoyed it.

Hmm... based off what you read/stated, I'd recommend The Boys by Garth Ennis.

I believe it's been collected into 12 graphic novels. One of my favorites actually.

Fair warning my tastes run to the non cape and stuff outside the "Big 2"

Fell, Transmetropolitan, The Authority all by Warren Ellis

Empire - Mark Waid

Preacher, The Boys - Garth Ennis

Absolution - Christos Gage

Incognito - Ed Brubaker

Powers - Brian Michael Bendis, to a lesser degree

off the top of my head
