I had the same problem. I got rid of mine on accident when I was trying to fix my acne. I had a non-celiacs gluten intolerance my whole life and didn't put the puzzle pieces together.

I had insane acne growing up. I had to do 2.5 rounds of accutane to get rid of it so I'm not making light of it. That being said there is now substantial evidence that acne is a disease of modern civilization. No acne is observed in any modern hunter gatherer group but it is once they adopt an argricultural based diet. Yes, I know it souds like BS but diet causes acne. In fact if you eat a Paleo diet your acne will go away completely.

Here is a book on it

In addition acne is inflammation. Depression has been tied to inflammation. The two are linked even if you didn't feel bad about your acne the inflammation in your body would still probably have you down. Eating Paleo, upping your vitamin D and adjusting your omega 3 to omega 6 ratio (paleo does this) addresses this.

Once again I know this sounds like total bullshit but it will cure your acne and it will cure your depression.

Of course, adjusting your diet won't work for everyone. A very convincing book called The Dietary Cure for Acne has some very persuasive arguments that I suggest you read. Here's a free pdf of it if you're interested.

You also have to remember that a low glycemic diet can be ruined by the daily consumption of even one type of food. Fruit, in particular, seems to really exacerbate inflammation. The only truly safe acne diet that I know of is only eating chicken, low GI vegetables (excluding carrots in particular), eggs and nuts.

Personally I think a combination of adjusting your diet, supplementing with vitamins and an effective skin care routine can help the majority of people get rid of acne. Sadly, there are cases where acne is largely hormonal and there's nothing you do about it aside from take hormone-reducing pills.

I wish you the best of luck getting rid of your acne.

Have you ever considered changing your diet? Seriously, I've struggled with acne since a teen as well. Went through two rounds of Accutane and it still came back. I finally tried the Paleo diet two years ago and it all cleared up within a month. No joke. These days, I only ever have minor breakouts around my period, or if I'm more stressed than usual :)

I recommend you read this book. It changed my life, and it's all backed by science.
