Sorry mama! She sounds overtired to me. When babies are overtired their bodies don't know how to shut down/relax and as a result they actually sleep less (hence the phrase, "sleep begets more sleep.")

Do you think maybe she has silent reflux (it can get worse when they are laying down)?

Or, do you swaddle, do a sound machine, and/or a pacifier?

My son only napped for 45 minute stretches at a time by that age (but, he was sleeping 12 hours a night by then.) I never ever had to do CIO because the Happiest Baby on the Block methods and this lady's techniques worked really well for us (I know the latter may not be for everyone, but it was awesome for us and many of our friends.) By the time a baby is 11lbs and/or 4 months old, they are physically capable of eating enough food during the day to not have to wake to eat in the middle of the night - based on this, in addition to research on their cortisol levels at that age which regulate circadian rhythm, I personally think she is waking out of habit.

In addition to what I've linked to already, maybe check out these books too: Baby Whisperer and Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child

I can totally see this working. When I had my daughter I found The Happiest Baby on the Block DVD and it was great, its a similar technique as far as the slight shaking and arms across goes and he adds an almost whitenoise technique as well. I have been able to achieve the status of baby whisperer amongst my friends and can pretty much almost instantly calm babies for some reason.
