as a guy, and as someone who is willing to give you real input instead of all this bullshit "just believe in yourself" shit, first off, the reality is yes, if you are ugly, you're going to have a hard time. this is harder for girls than for guys, because so much of a woman's value is based on her attractiveness but a guy's value is based on things he has more control over like success, value, body language, etc. You will never be able to live the same life as someone who is average or attractive looking. First off, just get over that in your head. All the people who are telling you that you can do anything are hurting you more than helping you by giving you false hope.

With that being said, what is the best that you can do given your situation? Some thoughts:

guys in their 20s tend to be more shallow. In their 30s and 40s, they have already played the field, and are developing more interest in women who aren't classically beautiful. I would suggest venues where more older and successful intellectually oriented guys go to, and connect with them on a topic that brought them to the venue.

if you want more of the feel good "you can do anything" bullshit, feel free to ask other women, who by definitely, are mostly average looking. I'm sure they'll know exactly what to do in your situation. Or, you can check out http://www.amazon.com/The-New-Rules-Attraction-Keep/dp/1402266529

or you can keep taking advice from people who don't know what they are talking about.
