Anyone who wants to know more about the Icarus, Morden's backstory and his relationship with Anna Sheridan owes it to themselves to read The Shadow Within. There's a lot of amazing detail in there, and a big piece on that necklace that Morden can always be seen wearing. Of all the B5 books it's also one of the best written.

Word of advice about the books -- only go for the trilogies. The first several B5 books that were written were standalone, and pretty awful. The trilogies are excellent, however.

Two notable exceptions: To Dream in the City of Sorrows is quite good, and is considered canon. This book fills in a few gaps and unanswered questions about Sinclair, Catherine, and Marcus. It is also the last standalone novel (Book 9) to be written before the many trilogies.

Book 7, The Shadow Within is considered 90% canon, and gives us lots of backstory information on Sheridan, Anna, and Morden.
