G-Shock or maybe an Ironman?

If you want more running features, and have got more money how about a Nike?

The best watch for flying I've ever had has been a Timex Ironman. I have the time set to zulu and I can press a button to display the second time which is local for my base. I sometimes use the chronograph but the plane has one on the ADF (most do) so I don't use it much. I've never used the alarm or timer functions. It's also nice to have a day, month and day of the week displayed. The Indiglo function is awesome too.

The two main reasons I have this watch are: 1) it's digital and the digits are big and very easy to read, 2) it has dual time zones.

"Pilot watches" are the most overrated commodity in all of aviation.

This is the exact one I have: http://www.amazon.com/Timex-Ironman-Traditional-100-Lap-Silver-Tone/dp/B00093CZV0/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1371264822&sr=8-10&keywords=timex+ironman

I just bought the traditional timex ironman watch for $37. It's great, has a stop watch, 100 laps memory, indiglo and light weight. Just buy it off amazon and if you don't like it you can return it anyway.

Timex ironman. For some reason its listing at $18, its usually over $50.

Highly visible with a nice soft strap.

I have a timex ironman watch that I got for interval running. It lets me set up to nine custom sequential timers. I use it for hop additions all the time.

Also, the advantage over a smart phone is the price and that it's quite a bit more water resistant.

If I got the right link on my phone here, this is it:

Here's the link. Sometimes the price fluctuates on Amazon, just wanted to capture it at the most opportune time

Hello everyone, it has been a wonderful day. I have received my first real watch from my parents for christmas. I gave my mom 2 ideas for what to buy me, between a Timex Easy Reader and a Timex Expedition. I am glad she choose the second watch, I love it. I know it may not be a fancy watch, but it is a great starter and it is functional. I can use it in formal situations and casual situations. The reason I say it is my first real watch is because I own a Timex Ironman, which I dont consider a first real watch as I used it for working out.
Merry Christmas, Everyone!

This is exactly what I'm looking for. Do you know which exact model you have?

I found this one, http://www.amazon.com/Timex-T5E231-Ironman-Traditional-Sport/dp/B00093CZV0
They also have interval countdowns with alarm, this is great.

Watch: I started running at night, going by time, and only had a little digital watch, with no illumination and no usable timmer, and had to do math to figure out intervals, and could only read it at a certain angle, while directly beneath occasional street lamps. It was awful. I bought a $30 Timex, and it's been brilliant. Big "split" button center stage, just hit it as I stop every interval. If it disappeared tomorrow, I would buy the same one. http://www.amazon.com/Timex-T5E231-Ironman-100-Lap-System/dp/B00093CZV0/ref=sr_1_1?s=watches&ie=UTF8&qid=1312554145&sr=1-1

For shorts and shirt, I like basic, shorter Nikes and basic, t-shirt-cut polyester, and you can find the stuff cheaper at like TJ Maxx or w/e, if you check a lot, and i think the C9 stuff at Target is decent, but I think it's sort of a process finding what works for you, and what's not important. It's a great time to figure it out, too, because you aren't really running enough to do a ton of damage yet.

(For me, though, particularly in this heat, I wouldn't run without running socks.)

Edit: I ran once in boxers and basketball shorts, and realized I needed more...support. I went to buy some tighty-whities, and with them in my hand stumbled upon some running shorts, which were way lighter, more comfortable looking, looked cooler to my nerdy, contrarian sensibility, and had the underwear built in. Didn't take a genius.

THIS. The one I have lights up when you flick your wrist. Its great for early runs and has lasted through field training.

I didn't mention Timex because I was only focusing on the BEST and most DIVERSE brand of digital watch, which is G-Shock. If you're looking for me to defend that, I will gladly.

I've owned two timex Ironmans, this one and this one. The first one broke in a month when I was hiking (the band pins snapped off when I slipped down a rock) and the second one I didn't like very much. The display is an awkward shape, the numbers are ugly and the icons for the alarm and stuff are in weird places. And all the timing functions and birthday functions are really just gimmicks.

I have owned several G-Shocks, ranging from the classic GW-5600e to the Riseman. None of these ever showed any wear, but I did end up selling 3 of them in order to buy a more expensive watch, a Suunto Core. All 7 of my G-Shocks have been very good looking-rugged, with good color and beautiful display layouts-and all of them have very useful features-like automatic EL and auto-start timers. The Riseman was a fantastic altimeter watch and my GW-9052 survived a 55 foot fall from a roof, hours of swimming in the ocean, and I kept it on 24-7 for nearly a year without it getting a single scratch. Both my Ironmans, on the other hand, had terrible plastic over the display that was hard to wash and easy to scratch.

Ironmans definitely have more functions, like turning off whole submenus and having date-specific alarms (which my Riseman had), but those don't make up for their poor design and poor durability, when compared with G-Shocks. And if you still think that the Ironman is a better watch, look at this and look at the dozens of G-Shock forums out there, and the few measly Timex forums.
